Rotted Light Niche
snak23 - 22-5-09 at 06:29 PM

Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop a rotted out light niche from leaking? The customer did not want to dig up the concrete to replace it and just wanted to stop the leak. The niche is copper and is too rotted out to use epoxy. The only thing I could think of was to use a large piece of vinyl to cover the hole and screw the light ring in over it to keep it in place and seal the niche from the pool.

Thanks,
Mike

What you've got is not rot. I't's chemical mismanagement. Too low Ph.
There are several ways to go depending on your expertise and customers budget.
1. replace niche
2. lay in fiberglass mat and mix catalyst and resin
3. Bondo. (works better than you'd think)

Educate customer on using bicarb to raise alkalinity and prevent electrolysis with an anode in the skimmer basket.

Good luck.

Cut white plexiglass circle to fit under light ring, drill holes for screws, make gasket from sheet rubber. Install in place of lens.
