I'm considering buying a helium detector to supplement my XLT.

Anyone know how large an adequate supply helium tank should be?

How well does helium work around skimmers?

Will drilling 1/8" holes in concrete along suspected leaking buried pipe increase the pinpointing of a leak? How far apart should such holes be drilled?

Helium detection can be your best friend on a difficult project.

A tank of helium about SCUBA tank size is more than adequate in most situations and is not difficult to transport.

From my experience it works very to tell if a leak is under a skimmer, it won't tell exactly, but will let you know there is a leak there and not further down the pipe run.

Before drilling holes we usually try without drilling. Helium will escape through cracked expansion joints and along the coping. To pinpoint we use a combination of acoustic and helium detection and try to avoid drilling at all costs.

I hope someone else can add on additional advice on deck drilling and helium use.

Some helium detectors are finicky in high humidity areas like the South and Mid-Atlantic states. Research the detector thoroughly before buying it.
