Calculate water loss

Can someone give me the formula for calculating water loss in a pool. I cannot seem to find it. Thanks

number of inches lost x surface area of pool x .625 = number of gallons lost.

gallons of water lost divided by 7.48 = cubic feet of water lost. (Customer's water bill is usually in cubic feet)
