VGB and less than desirable contractors
It has comes to my attention as well as others that drain covers are being installed in public pools WITHOUT the approval of local health department
approval. In New York State, any changes made to any public pool must be approved by the County Department of Health PRIOR to work being performed.
There are those public pool operators who hire "a diver" who claims "i am a pool professional" to install the drain covers in order to save
money on draining and refilling the pool. This is not productive in making pools safer as this is the intention of the VGB. Drain covers are being
installed in NYS without County approval. This creates a unique environment for the diver and the pool operator as the conscience of a poorly fitted
drain cover may yield the potential of another entrapment injury or fatality. Pools, despite a VGB drain cover being installed, may not be the
correct drain cover for that particular pool. Pools, despite having a VGB logo drain cover on them, still may not have the correct fitting or sump
measurements because the math was not done or the blue prints are incorrect. To all those who are fitting drain covers, beware. There are a lot of
organizations who just want a drain cover slapped on a sump for a quick easy fix. Dont be a patsy
