Let's just teach the whole country leak detection!
I know were all proud of our locating skills,But man! if we all teach half the country the tricks of the trade on this site I dont think anything good
could come out of it...When I started doing leak detection ten yrs ago it was all school of hard knox...And the jokers I hear about today trying to
pick up the trade these days????there the ones trying to get the info on leak detection from you guys,And proudly give it up.Im not trying to sound
like an ass but if this keeps going before you know it you could get a leak located for a hundred bucks.

There are a lot of "gypsies" in my area that I service that proclaim themselves as leak detector. Oh sure, they will dive the pool and find the leak
and patch it. But in my sense of th e word leak detection involves much more than that. Line pressurization capabilities as well ultrasonic detection
encompass the entire real of at least the swimming pool industry that we service. Not only this, but NON INSURED leak detectors that perform work on
pools. Customer has a problem with a pool post leak detection, try and get that guy back. The other part of the problem is that the general public
shops for PRICE not QUALITY. Quality is only an issue when there is a problem. People BUY FOR PRICE as that seems to be the deciding factor in
anything, cars, service, etc... Cheaper doesnt mean better. Cheaper doesnt mean good service. Cheaper doesnt translate to competence. However, more
expensive doesnt translate to these issues as well. Bottom line, buyer beware.

There is a big difference between giving a fellow leak detector a tip on a specific problem and teaching Newbies the trade for free. Leak detection is
a skilled trade that cannot be taught on the internet, nor does buying all the tools and equipment make someone a pro. Time on the job, education and
the right tools are what it takes to be a pro. I think that the information that Lance provides and the help from members here are good for our
business and that those of us that have worked really hard to be good at what we do have nothing to fear from Newbies. The more leak detectors that
spend time to learn and ask questions, the harder it will be for the "lets dig a holes until we find it" crowd. So on Canada day9July 1) and the
upcoming July 4th a salute to the professionals in our industry.

I appreciate the comments of everyone but we are obviouslty not a threat to guys in the US and are honestly working to become "professional" in the
service we provide. I know it will take time, practice and mistakes (unfortunately) but i know the leak detection aspect will only increase the value
of my business and i look forward to it becoming a larger part. I am very proud of the reputation that i have in the pool service industry over here
in Oz and work to improve that by continually undertaking recognised training courses as well as learning on the job and picking the brains of fellow
techs. You can tell the professionalism of a person by the amount of knowledge they are willing to empart as they know that it will only make the
industry more professional. Thanks to those who have supplied info. Much appreciated.

kudos to those "newbies" who want to provide a quality service at a fair price. Nothing wrong with teaching new people tricks of the trade to help
assist their business grow. best of luck to those who ask questions who want to do the job right.

I think that the detection end of the pool business is and will continue to be a highly specialized field. If I can impart a smaal bit of the wisdom I
have accumulated over the past 15 yrs to help a fellow specialist out while maybe picking up a couple tricks in trade we'll all be better at our
craft and not have to worry about wannabe's. I work in Los Angeles where it seems a lot of guys come and go in this biz, and even though its an
extremely large area, reputations and word of mouth get the best returns for business. Point being, bring em on, there is enough work for all the
little squirrels to get a nut and performance will weed out the kooks.
