anti entrapment drain covers
A video recently surfaced on youtube showing a very large national company that brokers apartments and condos performing a vgb upgrade. The video
showed what appeared to be a layperson whos company is facility aquatic response team. The upgrade was performed in a commercial public pool with two
9 by 9 drain covers that were separted more than three feet apart. What was interesting about the video was when the "pool professional" removed the
cover, the pipe to the sump was engineered one inch below the drain cover on what appears to be a 2-3 inch pipe (illegal) He then mentions in his
video how to fashion the drain cover so that the sump cannot be seen from an inspector (back to the illegal sump engineering).
So with that, the smoking gun is in. Lots of illegal, shoddy upgrades are being performed by companies who want to dodge the VGB, or by "pool
professionals" who are really sticking out their necks in performing work than is substandard. . The ironic part about this is this pool still
remains dangerous. Would be interesting to see what the federal government will do with local authorities in determining all upgrades are legal and
safe. Its still a mess and unfortunate that some pools are still deathtraps to an otherwise unsuspecting public. Oh yeah, the pool operator will tell
swimmer "we are vgb compliant", but are they?

Time for a rant!! Not directed at you trackerm..just at the political correctness that is VGB. When the tragic accident happened to her daughter
(granddaughter)? the cry went out that POOLS ARE DANGEROUS!!! when the real statement is that pools CAN BE dangerous just like all things. You can
choke on a twinkie.
So the Washinton Machine went to work and created VGB. Swell. I hope it saves lives like it should...even just one, right? But what about all those
DANGEROUS private pools? I guess when we stop putting rubber underneath the playground equipment at the park, we can start making everything else
safe.
Point is we are living in a Nanny State where the government is bound by the constitution to keep us all safe from ourselves. If you get that last
joke, you probably have read the constitution. I know we're just a little leak site but I think...oh wait...The're coming to take me
away..hahahehe..........

the vgb has it's place and it's in the bottom of every pool, reguardless of the pools classification, private or commericial all pools have the
ability to be death traps.
people that would circumvent the vgb for the sake of a few bucks should be arrested . these are the same "pros" that use flex pipe for their pump
repairs and drip redhotblue glue on everything in site so that you know that a repair has been made.
i've had enough of the guy that tells me that i'm robbing people for a drain job ( after all, it only takes me 4-5 dives to put a drain in, can't
you hold your breath for 2 mins?)
this is all bs, we have a responsiblity to the people using the pools not just the pool owners.
i had a county inspector yelling at the top of her lungs about the cost of the vgb vs smoke alarms and which was the most important.
my comment was that both were equally important when you're just about to lose concesneses

No offense taken. Yes, both private and public pools can injure and kill. why not make the vgb mandatory all pools? good point. The point is that
pool owners are trying to snake past the vgb, the unsafe way. even if a pool owner is knowledable and has the equipment to make the drain cover swap
themselves, more power to them. hey, i am all for the customer saving a buck and doing it themselves. but when they do it willingly and knowingly
their pool sump is non compliant or otherwise lie to inspectors or dont get approvals for changes, thats the issue.
I am a diver as well and have performed many upgrades from simple 9 by 9 squres to neptune benson and stainless drain covers. Automatically, some
institutions feel they are being hosed due to cost. Well, they dont understand the factors of insurance, cost of drain covers (over a thousand a
piece and sometimes they need three). it all adds up. Performing a underwater upgrade is not a trip to the florida keys for a week of live aboard
diving. Its all physiology, the affects of pressure and nitrogen in gassing on your body. Hands down, underwater is a dangerous place to be. In a pool
doing a vgb upgrade or diving in the keys. people dont get it.

inspectors yelling. thats unprofessional. they would not be yelling if it was their family member caught in a single main drain at disneyland. the
only thing they would be yelling is outage and how could someone let this happen???? oh yeah, its a different world when the knife is on their neck.

Years ago I was on a call at a gym with a spa on the second floor with a skimmer that leaked out the top whenever more than 5 people got in due to
waterlevel rise. I siliconed the hole in the center of the lid and stopped the leak but when a 400 lb female leaned back against skimmer throat she
got a square hickey. We had to build out the skimmer throat with slats to prevent it from happening again.
