How do YOU mark leak locations on a pool deck?
I don't think any homeowner wants a permanent mark on their deck, yet they don't always want to repair a small leak. Is there an unobtrusive way to
do it?

I place a coin on the spot then take a picture of it and keep the pictures in my email inbox folder or attach the picture to the customer's
workorder for later reference? Besides a permanent marker really isnt all that permanent.

I usually take detailed measurements of the location of the leak, i.e. 2' to left of skimmer and 1' back from pool edge. I also place a duct tape
"X" at the location of the leak if it's under concrete. Duct tape will leave a mark if it's left on too long, though. If the leak is under dirt I
stake it with a piece of 3/4" PVC marked "LEAK-xxxx LINE.

i use a lumber crayon or what is commonly known as "keel". I carry red for concrete or yellow for brick decks. It dosn;t stain the area and will
wash away eventually. That being said, I always try to show the customer the area of leak and ask them if they want me to mark it so I'm covered if
they complain on down the line. Obviously flags are used if in soil/grass. When I find craks in the plaster, I use keel to trace the crack
underwater.

Blue painters tape works great to at least show the homowner. Past that it doesn't really matter if I am the one doing the repair.
