There are a number of unlicensed underwater leak detection and repairs being done in our area. BUYER BEWARE The State of Florida and the counties require a special contractors pool license for any repairs to any pool or spa is necessary. Several pool associations are now turning in unlicensed leak detection companies to the counties they are working in as well as to the DBR.

At this time, Florida does NOT take enforcement seriously. If they really did, all they have to do is sit outside the suppliers for a week and nail all companies buying pumps, motors, etc. without a license. AND fine the suppliers for selling to them. But they don't. Why? Money. There aren't enough good, licensed contractors to do the work that already exists. For example, every licensed contractor that I know, already is LOADED with work. I work Saturdays to keep up. But, I don't waste my time worrying about other people. Many of the people I do work for are unlicensed. But, they screw up, and I come in and make money. Of course, I don't tell them what I did or how. And I explain that to them. I am not paid to put myself out of future work. If they want to take the time to watch, fine. But, there won't be question/answer period. We do our work quickly and get out. FYI, a license to FIND leaks is not required in the state of Florida. BUT, to do repairs is. A fellow like that one in CT could find leaks all day long if he turns over the repairs to a licensed plumber or pool contractor.
