Return Testing
Morning Pool Professionals !
Question, I have & have had some pools that needed the return/pressure side presure tested for leaks. My problem has been the brains that have
built these older pools in the past. Skimmers & the Polaris lines are no problem.
By saying that, I have a return line, with an in-line Hayward style chlorinator and all the PVC connections are butted up, so there is no place to cut
the line so it can be plugged off to perform this test. Some of these pools also have all the equipment below the water level, equipment pad is down
hill.
Do you test with the chlorinator in tac, assuming it does not leak, or ??
Do you cut the return line somewhere & install ball valves to close off the return side?
I thank you in advance and wish all, the VERY best of the Holidays and a great 2012!

Initially I would test from the pump through everything back to the returns, after all you don't want a leak anywhere. Just don't overdo the
pressure. Pain in the butt with below water level plant as you need to plug pool side if there are no valves to enable any cutting on of valves.

Return Pressure
I like the idea of pessure testing on the return side, BUT, I am assuming you are doing so/cutting the return line after the filter/chlorinator OR,
are you testing thru these items?
Thanks,

Take the connection off the top of the pump and pressure test from there back to the pool, through filter etc.
